Cinque Terre: An ideal place to discover organic food

Did you know that 55% of the agricultural land around the Cinque Terre in Liguria has been certified as organic (called “bio” in Italy), making it the destination in Italy for you if your family is passionate about organic food.

In fact, the region was the first in Europe to obtain the classification, and a shining example of organic farming in the region is Alta Val di Vara, which is a massive 345 square kilometres of pesticide-free green land. Since 1997 the number of organic territories in Italy has increased from just three to a whopping 97, many of which can be found in Liguria, Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. And with more and more young farmers expressing interest in organic farming, that number is sure to grow!

Besides the delicious organic food, the Cinque Terre also offers families pretty coastal walks and safe cycling routes between the famous fishing villages that define this stretch of coastline. You can also enjoy a boat tour with your family, or even paragliding! And if you have older children then don’t miss out on a Cinque Terre wine tour – the region boasts some unique wines, especially those from Montenero.
