Family friendly destinations in Italy

Holidays should be a time for relaxation away from the stresses and strains of modern day life. However, if you have a family, planning your trip away can be a major headache with stress about adjoining rooms, family friendly hotels, crib hire, activities to keep the kids amused, children’s meal options, and so on. Add to that cultural and language barriers and you may well be put off booking a holiday at all!

FamilyHolidaysItaly.co.uk believe nothing should come between you and a relaxing holiday away for you and your family. With our partners, Bellarome, we have over 20 years’ experience in travel and tourism in Italy. During that time, we have built strong business relationships with the best hotels and suppliers in Italy, and we know the best places to stay, eat and have fun on a family trip to Italy. Here is a selection of our favourites.

  1. Rome

Of course we have to start with the Italian capital! There is so much to do and see in Italy that will keep the children (and adults) entertained, such as seeing the Colosseum and posing for photographs with the gladiators, taking in the magnificence of the Roman Forum and Pantheon, or exploring the hidden alleyways, galleries and quiet gardens that characterise the Eternal City. We also offer cooking classes, hop on/hop off bus tours, tours of the Vatican, tours of the Catacombs and Crypts, ghost tours and so much more. There also a zoological garden. Just check out the tours section of Bellarome's website for more ideas!

  1. Lake Garda

Lake Garda is the perfect destination for parents with young children as the lake provides a serene backdrop in which to relax in, but the surrounding area also offers plenty of activities, such as boat tours, quad biking and, of course, the amazing Gardaland! There is also a Sea Life Aquarium, the Mantua and Sigurta parks and wine tasting tours (for the adults). You can also hire bikes and take walking tours. We also offer a range of day trips from Lake Garda to Florence, Milan, Venice and the Dolomites, where there is seasonal skiing.

  1. Sorrento

The city of Sorrento is located on the northern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula and it benefits from sunny Mediterranean weather and a fragrant climate thanks to the many lemon groves dotted around the city. Sorrento is a good choice if you have older children as there are many vibrant cafes and bars to enjoy, as well as boutique shops; we also offer sea cruises. However, younger children can enjoy the Due Golfi train and we also offer day trips to the island of Capri, where you can enjoy a cable car ride. Cooking classes, musical theatre performances and day tours of Pompeii are also available.

  1. Sicily

If you're looking for summer sunshine on your family holiday to Italy, you can't beat Sicily! The main destinations include Catania, Cefalù and Palermo, where you can enjoy plenty of family-friendly activities, such as a Godfather Movie tour or hop-on/hop-off bus tours. Catania is also home to the imposing Mount Etna, while Cefalù has sandy beaches and stunning views for total relaxation. We also offer wine tasting for the adults!

  1. Milan

If you have teenage children then Milan is an excellent choice for your family trip to Italy. The city is quintessentially chic, with shopping outlets, fashion stores and designer boutiques. It also serves amazing gelato! There is also the AcquaWorld water park, the Duomo (the city's gothic cathedral), La Scala Opera House or one of the city’s art galleries to tempt you in. We also offer hot-air balloon rides and San Siro Stadium tours, as well as day trips to Lake Como and Venice.
